This week my sister and I were given free passes to attend the Techweek Chicago Fashion Show and how could we pass that up? Miraculously, we both were able to attend and take in the new experience.
We both had no idea what to expect. I mean, a fashion show at Techweek? Who would even think to put two and two together? Then we were wondering what we would see strutting down the catwalk. Would it be your typical fashion show or would they incorporate crazy new tech-y fashion products?
When we walked in, we first stopped by various tables of different fashion related companies. I was so excited to see The Empowerment Plan, an inspiring organization I've been following for a few months. In Detroit, Veronika Scott created the first sleeping bag coat when she was a 20-year old trying to find a way to help the numerous homeless living on the streets during the brutal winters. The sleeping bag is a piece of clothing that can be worn as a warm coat during the day and converted into a sleeping bag at night. And the best part is that she employs the very population she is helping to give them a way to be self-sufficient. Incredible.
Then the fashion show started and while there were no robots strutting down the aisle (I wish!), the models wore work-wearable looks as well as some black-tie looks. They worked in the "tech" part by having the models hold/wear iPhones, tech-y watches, Google glasses, etc. The best part was that there was menswear too!
I love how they ended the show with a dance party! Made me want to get up and dance too!
Finally we headed to the W Hotel's lobby to take in the beautiful environment and kick up our feet a bit. My sister also snapped some photos of my outfit. We threw together our outfits in a few minutes and I quickly grabbed bright accessories to liven up my black & white canvas. My new favorite colorful statement necklace from Benevolent Jewels was an obvious since it simply brightens up any outfit. And then, as I do with most outfits, I picked two colors from the necklace to highlight. I chose cobalt blue and magenta since recently I've been just a tad bit obsessed with this gorgeous color mix. What do you think?
My outfit:
Dress: Urban Outfitters | Belt: Hong Kong | Bag: DSW | Shoes: Just Fab | Necklace: Benevolent Jewels | Earrings: Forever 21 | Bracelet: Urban Outfitters | Rings: Urban Outfitters, ILY Couture

Overall it was a great night! And I learned that the tech industry isn't just a bunch of nerds wearing pocket protectors ;-)
Thanks for reading! Have a beautiful day & remember to wear love today!
