THANKFUL THURSDAY: PROJECT AWARE

Last weekend, I was so lucky to spend my day off with friends at the beach. Summertime is my favorite time because of those special memories you make with friends. And we made memories that we won't forget!

A few of my friends got baptized in Lake Michigan, along with 118 other people from our church. What a sight to witness! 

Since you may know how much I love Chicago sunrises, I decided to get to the beach earlier to make the most of my day off. The colors brushed across the sky were absolutely breathtaking. The water reflected gorgeous hues and I couldn't wait to dip my feet in the water.

However, as I approached the water line, there was so much garbage lining the shore. I don't know about you, but it's completely jarring when natural beauty is marred by human waste. And I just learned that in the last year alone, 74,000 pounds of trash were removed from our oceans and underwater environments! 

Excuse me?? That is not okay. 

Thankfully, there are organizations, like Project Aware who are dedicated to removing trash from our oceans. Not only do they create bodies of water that are more aesthetically pleasing, but more importantly, they're protecting everyone in the ecosystem, including you and me!
